Summer TUTTI dates

Summer TUTTI is open to students who will be rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors (ages 15 to 18) by the time the program starts in June.
Applications are reviewed once they are complete. For priority consideration, complete applications must be submitted no later than March 1. Applications will be accepted until the camp is filled.
Notifications will be offered by early April via email and regular mail.
Application Checklist
All applications for Denison’s Summer TUTTI are submitted online through a secure portal (SlideRoom).
- Application form with short-answer questions
- Optional need-based financial aid request
- A recommendation form completed online by a teacher or school counselor
- Supplemental materials (see each program’s specific requirements below)
Specific Requirements
See each program’s requirements below:
Music
When you enter the SlideRoom application portal, you will be asked to respond to a few short questions. You may respond either in writing or via video.
In addition, provide separate videos of yourself performing each of the relevant audition components listed below, each shot in a single, unedited take. For example, for pianists, one video would include the two scales, a second video would include the first solo piece, and a third video would include the second solo piece. You may submit additional audition videos for more than one instrument/area, if you wish, up to a total of five (5) videos. Note to composers: for your compositions, audio recordings will suffice.
Required Audition Materials
○ Strings
■ One 2- or 3-octave major scale
■ Short solo or etude
○ Woodwinds and Brass
■ Three major scales and a chromatic scale
■ One etude or solo piece from a recent performance OR an excerpt from your recent high school band, orchestra, or jazz band repertoire.
○ Vocal
■ One full art song or aria; OR
■ Two 1-minute cuts of contrasting art songs or arias; OR
■ Two 1-minute cuts of you singing your voice part from a choral piece you’ve worked on. Please note: If performing an art song or aria, please sing with either a pre-recorded track or live accompaniment. A cappella auditions are only acceptable for a cappella choral submissions.
○ Percussion (Concert Percussion or Drum Set)
For Concert Percussion, please submit the following:
■ One snare drum etude (rudimental or orchestral style is acceptable) Suggestions include but are not limited to Mitchell Peters’s Intermediate or Advanced Snare Drum Studies, Anthony Cirone’s Portraits in Rhythm, Charley Wilcoxon’s The All-American Drummer, Morris Goldenberg’s Modern School for Snare Drum, Vic Firth’s The Solo Snare Drummer, etc)
■ 2- or 4-mallet marimba or xylophone etude or solo (excerpts of longer pieces accepted). Suggestions include but not limited to Morris Goldenberg’s Modern School for Xylophone Marimba Vibraphone, William Schinstine’s Southern Special Marimba Solos, George Hamilton Green xylophone rags, a solo from Julia Gaines’s Sequential Studies for Four-Mallet Marimba Level 1, marimba solos by Earl Hatch, Mitchell Peters, Paul Smadbeck, a Bach violin partita/sonata or cello suite movement, etc.
For Drum Set, please submit the following:
■ Drum set: A demonstration of at least 3-4 contrasting styles of music (swing, rock, Afro-Cuban, funk, samba, Caribbean, etc.). Play 8-bar phrases of each with appropriate fills in between.
○ Piano
■ One from from any style (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20/21st century)
○ Composition
■ Two scores and/or recordings of your compositions. Note: MIDI files are acceptable.
Video files may be no larger than 250MB. Acceptable video file types include: .m4v, .mov, .mp4, .wmv, .flv, .asf, .mpeg, .mpg, .mkv. Videos may be submitted directly to SlideRoom, but we prefer that you upload them to YouTube or Vimeo and provide the links instead.
Dance
When you enter the SlideRoom application portal, you will be asked to respond to a few short questions. You may respond either in writing or via video.
In addition, you will need to provide a separate video (3 minutes maximum) of you dancing or expressing yourself through movement. Your example could be from a choreographed or improvised solo in a studio setting, or from a solo or group performance. If your video is of a group performance, please identify which dancer you are.
Video files may be no larger than 250MB. Acceptable file types include: .m4v, .mov, .mp4, .wmv, .flv, .asf, .mpeg, .mpg, .mkv. Videos may be submitted directly to SlideRoom, but we prefer that you upload them to YouTube or Vimeo and provide the links instead.
Theatre
When you enter the SlideRoom application portal, you will be asked to respond to a few short question in writing. In addition, you will need to provide a separate video (3 minutes maximum) responding to the three prompts. Applications must respond to both sets of questions, one set in writing (in the application), the other set via video addressing the prompts below:
Theatre Prompts:
1) Describe a moment of theatre that had an impact on you as an audience member. What happened on stage and what did you feel? What did you see and hear that made the moment moving and/or memorable?
2) Describe what kind of theatre do you like to create and/or see. Elaborate on what excites you about this kind of work.
3) Talk about, show, or perform something theatrical that you were involved in making (or hope to make one day). This could be a drawing for a costume you helped make/sew, text you wrote that someone performed, a monologue performed from a play, describing a moment that happened on or backstage, etc.

MUSICAL THEATRE
When you enter the SlideRoom application portal, you will be asked to respond to a few short questions. You need to provide a separate video (3 minutes maximum) performing ONE of the following:
- One full song from a musical.
- Two 1-minute cuts of contrasting songs (ie. One musical theatre and one pop OR one contemporary musical theatre and one classic musical theatre).
- 1-minute cut of any song and a 1-minute monologue.
*Please sing with either a pre-recorded track or live accompaniment. No a capella auditions, please.
